Q: Why would I choose Global Insomnia Solutions (GIS) over other online clinical services for sleep?

A: GIS offers remarkably convenient, state-of-the-art individual access to a doctoral-level sleep expert.  The primary service offered by our company is direct one-on-one video consultation with an Illinois-licensed clinical psychologist with over 30 years of training and experience in a variety of sleep-related clinical and research settings.

All U.S.-based clinical psychologists are expected to carefully follow all the standards (by-laws) for ethical practice of clinical psychology as outlined by the American Psychological Association (APA) and their respective state licensing board: the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR).

In regards to telepsychology, our company carefully follows the guidelines of the Joint Task Force for the Development of Telepsychology Guidelines for Psychologists (Telepsychology Task Force) established by the following three entities: The American Psychological Association (APA), the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards (ASPPB) and the APA Insurance Trust (APAIT).

Q: Does Global Insomnia Solutions accept medical insurance? 

A: GIS does not initiate billing to any insurance carrier, whether it is primary or secondary. As such, patients or their representatives are solely responsible for all clinical fees. However, your health insurance may help you recover some of your treatment costs. Most group policies, but fewer individual policies, cover telepsychology services provided by a licensed clinical psychologist. If desired, patients are welcome to seek reimbursement from their primary or secondary insurance carrier.

Most insurance carriers require pre-authorization prior to the actual appointment date.  If interested in trying to receive reimbursement for your appointment, it is important to notify you insurance carrier prior to scheduling your appointment.  Please verify with your insurance carrier company the amounts of coverage for telepsychology services if you are interested in submitting your bill for reimbursement. If you are required to submit information to them prior to payment, this is the sole responsibility of the patient.

Q: How can I make an appointment for a session with Global Insomnia Solutions?

A: Please select “make an appointment” on our menu. Select an available date and then an available time on our Appointment Calendar.  You will then complete a brief pre-appointment online questionnaire.  When you have successfully completed all of the required information, we will send you a confirmation email.  Please note that full payment is due at the time you choose your preferred appointment time and date.

Q: How should I prepare for my appointment?

A: Please review the HIPAA policy and accompanying policy documents located at the bottom of our website in the green “footer” area listed under ‘Relevant Links’.  You will initially complete a brief patient form that will collect basic demographic information. You will then be prompted to either complete the Adult Pre-Appointment Questionnaire (or the Pediatric Pre-Appointment Questionnaire if the patient is younger than 18 years old).

You will be required to create a secured account with our server using a preferred email address and a password.  Once you start the process, we expect that it will take you less than 15 minutes to complete all required paperwork.

Q: How do I log into my appointment?

A: We use “securevideo.com” as our HIPAA-compliant video conference platform.  When you make an appointment, we will send you an invitation to your session with an access code.

You will be prompted to download “Zoom” program/ application.  Using Zoom, please enter the conference room with your access code.  You will be able to log on only within five minutes of your appointment time.  Please have your preferred electronic device ready and click on ” Join Video Call” .

We recommend that your test your audio connection with the tool available on the conference room page. Though we are able to accommodate appointments with a smart phone device, we recommend that you consider using an electronic device with a larger screen size to optimize all of the technologies that will be used during your appointment (eg. laptop, desktop, tablet, etc).

Q: What if I can’t find a convenient time for my appointment on your calendar?

A: Please contact us via email or contact form with your convenient time.  We will try our best to fit your schedule.

Q: What if I lose the internet communication during our session and we get disconnected?

A: We will use the contact information that you provided in your member login information to call you.  If your session was terminated for any reason, please wait by your phone. We will immediately make a call to reach you so that we can continue your session. If the secondary method to continue your session does not work, we will reschedule your appointment and you will not be charged for any clinical services.
